The 10 most beautiful lakes in the world: Lake Como in first place.

Lake Como took first place in the Worlds’ ten most beautiful lakes list drawn up by the web magazine The Huffington Post. Italy always remains the Beautiful Country. The US-based online newspaper The Huffington Post, in compiling the list of the most beautiful lakes in the world, places at the top spot the Lake Como.

As well as its sheer beauty and the sense of enchantment it gives us, other factors included the clean water and the quality of the places if offers to stay. Here are the top ten.

10 - Lake Tahoe, United States. Stunning lake nestled among the Sierra Nevada mountains. Located on the border between California and Nevada, it is famous for its crystal-clear water and being a popular skiing destination. Fun fact: Lake Tahoe was used for many of the filming locations in The Godfather - Part II, directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

9 - Derwentwater, England. If you are a fan of early 19th-century English literature, it's truly worth visiting this magnificent place. Located in the Lake District, a mountainous region in northwest England, it is famous for inspiring the so-called Lake Poets, a group of Romantic poets led by William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge. Inspired by the breathtaking landscapes in which they lived, they composed odes and poems praising the surrounding nature.

8 - Lake Titicaca, Bolivia and Peru. The highest navigable lake in the world, located at 3,812 meters above sea level, stretching between Bolivia and Peru. Its waters are incredibly clear, and the quality of light is so exceptional that the mountains appear much closer than they actually are, even when they are 30 kilometers away.

7 - Lake Powell, United States. When man rivals nature. Lake Powell is a stunning artificial reservoir created in 1963 on the Colorado River, bordering the Arizona desert. It is named after John Powell, an explorer who was the first to venture into the most remote areas of Arizona and Utah.

6 - Lake Lucerne, Switzerland. Also known as Lake of the Four Cantons, Lake Lucerne winds its way through central Switzerland. Besides its beautiful landscape, it is a popular tourist destination for the quality of its hotels and numerous beach resorts.

5 - Lake Dove, Australia. Remember the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes? The lively and feisty little marsupial actually lives on the shores of this lake, at the foot of the Cradle Mountains, enjoying the pristine purity of a wild and incredibly picturesque place.

4 - West Lake, China. Temples, pagodas, small verdant islands. That's what you'll find when you visit this lake located in the Hangzhou region. It is considered a symbol of non-industrialized China and represents a beautiful idealization of the concept of "man immersed in nature."

3 - Lake Pichola, India. An artificial lake created in 1362, it is famous for being chosen as the residence by Maharaja Udai Singh, who built a massive palace on its banks. It is a place of dazzling beauty and possesses a unique atmosphere.

2 - Maligne Lake, Canada. If you are passionate about exploring untouched nature, this lake is perfect for you. There are unique opportunities for canoeing, hiking, or visiting the nearby Jasper National Park. The view is splendid, with the Maligne Mountains providing a wonderful backdrop to the crystal-clear waters of the lake.
